Gauntlet II (c)1987 Gremlin Graphics and US Gold -------------------------------------- THE HEROES: thor the warrior: skin:armour - very good shot power - excellent hand-to-hand combat - excellent magic - poor thyra the valkyrie: armour - quite good shot power - poor hand-to-hand combat - very good magic - moderate merlin the wizard: armour - very poor shot power - good hand-to-hand combat - very poor magic - excellent questor the elf: armour - quite good shot power - poor hand-to-hand combat - poor magic - very good my advice to players is to take thor as a warrior and merlin as the protector of thor in dangerous situations... THE MONSTERS: ghosts: white ghostlike shadows. shoot them but do not go into hand-to-hand combat as they hit you once and then disappear, but this one hit will give a lot of damage.... grunts: red humanlike creatures with a black mask over their head. these will attack and hit you over and over with their clubs, so they are quite dangerous. demons: red round figures which shoot fireballs at you. the fireballs hurt much more than their biting when they are in hand-to-hand combat... so try to get as close as possible if they are many otherwise just shoot 'em from distance. lobbers: small green dwarfs. these only try to throw rocks at you at distance so they will try to run away from you. trap them in a corner and massacre them... sorcerers: blinking wizard-like freaks. these creatures turn invisible for each second step they take so they cannot be killed when they are invisible. either move towards them to fight hand-to-hand or shoot them when they are visible... death: dark shadows which follow you and then kill you... when touched, this sucker will drain over 200 pts from you and then die. so the only thing that can kill it is with magic and see to that you never get trapped alone with this fellow... super sorcerers: they are like the 'sorcerers' but much more vicious. they appear, shoot one shot at you and then disappear again. They will continue doing this until they are shot. magic only stuns them and stops them from shooting and disappearing for a short while... acid puddles: these green pools hurt the player but do not attack him. instead they wander around ainmlessly. they cannot be shot and magic just stuns them, so keep away from these guys... the 'it' monsters: these creatures look like glowing, spinning disks. when they hit a player they disappear, but don't harm the player. but, now when the player has been hit, all monsters will be attracted to him until he leaves the dungeon or touches another player. then the other player will be attracting the monsters and lose points... these creatures cannot be shot and will only be stunned by magic... the 'that' monsters: look like the 'it' monsters but when they hit a player he /she will lose either a special power, a potion or 100 hit-points... THE DUNGEON: the objects: ------------- potions: yellow bottles which can be shot but when collected and used they will have less power and the effect will be less powerful. special potions: can also be shot but when collected they will give the player a special power. these include: extra armour - increase protection extra magic - increases effect of potions. extra speed - increase missile speed extra shot power - increase damage inflicted by your missiles extra fight power - increase hand-to-hand combat ability extra strength - increase carrying ability poisoned potions: if drunk they will take 100 pts from your hit-points... poisoned food: behave like poisoned potions... food: plates of meat which increase both score and hitpoints by 100 pts. cider: these bottles can be shot and destroyed. when drunk they behave like the food. poisoned cider: if shot, it will slow down all monsters for a while. if drunk, it will take 50 hit-points and make the character dizzy and difficult to control... keys: use them to open doors. give +100 pts score. treasure: cannot be shot but when collected they give +100 pts score. some treasure chests are locked and need to be opened with a key. they may contain food, potion, money or even death!... amulets: these things have special abilities which are as folows: = invisibility - monsters can't see you and attack the other player instead. = invulnerability - monsters cannot hit you but your hitpoints decrease twice as fast as normal... = repulsiveness: - you're so disgusting that the monsters run away and avoid you.. = transportability - the player may now run through anything, walls, monsters, etc. 10 super shots: allow you to shoot 10 shots which will kill everything in its way until it hits a wall... reflective shots - these shots bounce off walls allowing the players to shoot around corners. they bounce max 3 times.. The features: ------------- walls: usually walls stop your shots but some crumble and disappear when shot... traps: these glowing patterns on the floor make some walls disapperar when stepped on. there can be more than one trap. trap walls may be invisible... stun tiles: when stepped on they stun the player for a while and then disappear... transporters: glowing red disks on the floor can transport you to the nearest visible transporter. if there are many at the same time, one is chosen at random but there are ways to influence your direction.... force fields: these go on and off in a particular pattern. if a player enters a field his hitpoints will quickly drain. monsters are not affected and the fields cannot be shot. exits: labelled holes which lead to the next level or level specified. some exits are phoney. they are just painted tiles... on some levels exits open and close on one place, disappear and then open on another place... treasure rooms: these appear randomly and if the player doesn't escape within a given time limit there will be no bonus or score. FINAL NOTES: on some levels players can be stunned or even injured if a fellow player shoots at him/her... if players do not fight for 30 secs all walls will disappear and free all monsters. waiting for another 30 secs will turn all walls into exit doors. the rest(controls and such) will be shown when loaded... -END-
